Master Distiller
Our master distiller Peter Assenga conceptualizes spirits and perfects them in his trusty still. Peter is constantly experimenting, blending spirits, trying out barrels for aging spirits and mixing up old and new ideas whilst exploring a plethora of African botanicals. He works tirelessly to assure maximum consistency is achieved in all our batches. Developing new spirits with the use of local ingredients is one of the missions at The Old Moshi Distillery, where Gin of Africa is produced. For Gin of Africa, Peter selected an extraordinary mix of ingredients, resulting in a unique and recognizable flavour that will leave you craving for another pour.
The Team
Our team is formed by three Tanzanian residents from different walks of life with a combined passion for gin, safari, and Tanzania. During a G&T fueled sundowner amongst friends, philosophizing about life and the history of Africa, we wondered why our drink of choice was still imported while many of the finest ingredients commonly used in gin are found on our very own doorstep. With one of us a talented young distiller capable of bringing these local ingredients together to create a truly premium Tanzanian craft gin, the idea for Gin of Africa was born that same evening.
